Well, maybe not all things translation. I am a Portuguese-to-English literary translator, and that is the type of translation I will be focusing on. I want to introduce to you works by Brazilian authors I have enjoyed, some very old, some very new, and my thoughts on language, language use, and literary translation. I may even offer my translations of Brazilian song lyrics I love because there is sheer poetry there.
In sum, I want to share some of Brazilian culture with you--my experience of it anyway--and sharpen my own thinking on translation.
Here's a little bit about me: I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil and completed most of my education there: from elementary school to university, including a certificate in English/Portuguese translation. I came to the U.S. for graduate school and earned a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and a PhD degree in Speech Communication. I taught English and teacher education courses for many years and am now retired from teaching--or mostly. Teaching might still be in my future.
I hope you will join me in this journey.
